12 players including Iyer, Pant, Rahul will be marquee players in IPL auction (Lead-1)

New Delhi, November 15 (IANS). Captain Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are among the 12 marquee players released by their respective teams in the mega IPL 2025 auction to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.

There are seven Indians in the list of marquee players. Iyer, Pant and Arshdeep Singh are included in the first set of six marquee players. Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are included in the second set. The five foreign players include the most expensive player in IPL auction history Mitchell Starc, England white-ball captain Jos Buttler, England all-rounder Liam Livingston, South Africa’s explosive batsman David Miller and South Africa’s fast bowler Kagiso Rabada.

The auction list of 574 players does not include Jofra Archer, who recently made a comeback after recovering from injury. Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 8 crore in the 2022 auction. He then had elbow surgery and was not expected to recover until that season. Ultimately he did not play both the seasons for Mumbai Indians and was later released.

This is the first time since the 2018 auction that the list of marquee players has been divided into two parts. The two sets in 2018 featured 16 marquee players. 10 marquee players were in the same set in the big auction of 2022.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals had retained all six players, due to which they will not have the right-to-match option in the auction. Punjab Kings will have four RTMs, Royal Challengers Bangalore will have three, Delhi Capitals will have two, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians will have one RTM option each.

This time the future of 574 players will be at stake in the big auction, which includes 366 Indian and 208 foreign players. Three players are from associate teams, including Pakistani-American cricketer Ali Khan, former Indian Under-19 captain Unmukt Chand and Scotland’s Brendon McMullen. A total of 330 uncapped players will be part of this auction, which includes 318 Indian and 12 foreign players.

Slots are vacant for 204 players in 10 teams, in which 70 foreign players can make place. The big auction will start on November 24 at 3.30 pm Indian time.
