136th OSCC meeting held in Hyderabad

New Delhi, November 19 (IANS). An important meeting was called on Tuesday to review the security and security of India’s offshore establishments. Security of offshore assets was discussed in this meeting. Indian Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and many other agencies participated in this security meeting.

This 136th meeting of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC) was organized by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). According to the Defense Ministry, the objective of the meeting was to review the preparedness and effectiveness of the security of the country’s offshore installations. This meeting of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC) held on 19 November was held in Hyderabad.

At this meeting of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee, ICG Director General, Pramesh Shivamani spoke about the importance of energy security. The ICG Director General stressed on taking all possible measures to ensure the security of offshore assets here. The Security Coordination Committee meeting was attended by members and participants from line ministries and agencies including Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons and DG Shipping.

This committee was constituted in 1978 to make the functioning of the offshore security system effective. Since that time it has made an influential contribution in formulating policies and advising and resolving related issues. Earlier recently, India and Sri Lanka had discussed a joint strategy to deal with international maritime crimes. An important high level meeting has taken place between India and Sri Lanka on this subject.

Many important topics like drug trafficking, safety of sailors on sea voyages were discussed in this meeting. Both countries had expressed their commitment to curb international maritime crimes.

This annual high level meeting of India and Sri Lanka was held in Colombo between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG). A four-member ICG delegation led by DG, Indian Coast Guard participated in the discussions.
