16 people died after passenger coach fell into river in Pakistan

Islamabad, November 13 (IANS). At least 16 people were killed and two injured after a passenger coach fell into a river in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region.

A passenger coach carrying 26 people fell into the river in Thalichi area of ​​Diamer district on Tuesday, area spokesman Faiz Ullah Faraq said.

According to the spokesperson, local people and rescue teams immediately reached the spot and started rescue operations. He succeeded in saving the lives of two people.

“The rescue team has retrieved 16 bodies and two injured people,” the spokesperson said. Apart from this, eight people are still missing.

The official said that the wedding guests were going from Astore area of ​​GB region to East Chakwal district of the country through this coach, when the accident occurred.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari expressed grief over the tragic incident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. Also directed the officials to make every effort to search for the missing people.
