30 years have passed in Dholpur on the footpath, there is no shelter, not even ration.

Dholpur : District Headquarters, Machkund Road, there are many nomadic families who have been living on the footpath for years. A dozen families have been living here for about 30 years but till now they have not been able to get the benefits of the state government schemes. Most of the men and women of the family make flour mills made of stone and some other items including clothespins for their livelihood, but now in the age of machinery, their buyers have reduced. The families say that they have appealed to many officials from the District Collector to prepare ration cards and other documents, but every time they have received only assurances. It remains to be said when will they get the benefits of government schemes.

Making flour mill with chisel and hammer: To earn their living, all these families make flour mills and folds made of stone. Men and women will be seen here chiseling and hammering on stones throughout the day. About 5 to 6 pieces are prepared in a day. Rajendra tells that sir…now there is less shopping than before. During fairs or other festivals, only people coming from rural areas buy it. Due to which livelihood for a time can be arranged. Chameli says that it has been so many years since she lived here but she did not get any help from the administration. Now even the city council people are asking us to vacate the footpaths, where should we go now….

Not from Rajasthan, hence no benefit: Most of the families came from Uttar Pradesh and settled there about 30 years ago. Many people were born in Dholpur itself. Elderly Sampat says that when he goes to the government office, he says that he is from UP and says that the documents are not prepared. It is said that bring the documents related to Dholpur. Because of this, even ration cards are not being made. They say that if Hindu migrants from Pakistan can get citizenship, then can they not be considered citizens of Rajasthan? Children of these families are also deprived of school education. A government teacher Narendra Yadav comes two-three times a week to teach the children of the neighborhood, apart from this no one is able to help them.
