Beirut, 24 November (IANS). Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday killed four people, including a Lebanese army soldier, and wounded 40 others, according to a source in the Lebanese army and the Lebanese Red Cross.
In southwestern Lebanon, an Israeli air strike on Sunday morning killed a Lebanese army soldier and wounded 18 others.
“The attack targeted the Lebanese Army post on the Quilleh-Tyre road in Ameria, causing heavy damage to the post,” the Lebanese army said in a statement on social media platform X.
Lebanese security sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that several 155-millimeter shells fired by Israel hit an army post, injuring soldiers and setting a warehouse at the post on fire.
Members of the Lebanese Red Cross worked to transport the injured to hospitals in the city of Tyre, while members of the Civil Defense worked to extinguish the fire, the sources said.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Israel’s attack against the Lebanese army sends a bloody message that Israel rejects all efforts for a ceasefire.

The Israeli army has been carrying out air strikes on Lebanon since September 23. It has also launched a ‘limited’ ground campaign across the border, reportedly aimed at weakening Hezbollah.
Many commanders, including Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, were killed in Israeli attacks and many of its bases were heavily damaged. However, the Lebanese group is also retaliating by firing missiles at Israel.
As of Sunday, the death toll in the Lebanese army since the start of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict on 8 October 2023 has reached 41, according to a Lebanese security source.
