400 people fall sick, admitted to hospital after drinking sherbet during a religious procession in Rajasthan

Banswara : A religious procession was being taken out in Banswara city on Tuesday night, during which about 400 people fell victim to vomiting and diarrhea one after the other after drinking sherbet. First of all, 3 children were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. After this, between 12 am and 1 am late at night, most of the patients who fell victim to food poisoning were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.

Treatment was done by breaking the lock of the dispensary

On the other hand, there is a city dispensary at a distance of about 250 meters from the incident spot. People talked to the doctor here and broke the lock of the dispensary at night and started treatment by taking out ORS etc. However, after some time a team of three doctors also reached here and a total of 105 people were treated. CMHO Doctor Hiralal Tabiyat said that so far about 400 people had reached Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for treatment, out of which about 100 people are still admitted.

Police reached the hospital late at night

On getting information about the incident, all the officers of the district administration along with the police reached Mahatma Gandhi Hospital at around 4:00 pm. However, some officers had reached the hospital at 2:00 am itself. Orders have been given to investigate the incident. The CMHO said that they have also asked for samples and if possible, they will get the samples tested. Anjuman Islamia’s head Shoaib Khan said that this incident happened around 12:00 pm. Actually, during the religious procession, the people of the society had set up a stall and after drinking its sherbet, children, women and the elderly all fell ill. All of them have been admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for treatment.
