Dholpur : The continuous rain for the last 40 hours in Dholpur district of Rajasthan has created havoc. Rural areas including the district headquarters have been badly affected by waterlogging. Due to heavy rains in the catchment area of Parvati Dam, the Water Resources Department has released water by opening 14 gates 3 feet in the morning. On the other hand, the Urmila Sagar Dam has also been completely filled. Due to the overflow of Urmila Sagar, the administration has cut the Khanpura road last night and released water in the Dang area. The crops of the farmers have reached the brink of destruction.
40 colonies turned into ponds
Monsoon rains have caused heavy destruction in Dholpur district this time. The district has been witnessing torrential rains for the last 40 hours. Fields, barns, reservoirs, waterfalls, ponds, dams, all are full to the brim. Nearly 40 colonies of Dholpur city have turned into ponds. In rural areas, Kharif market pulses, oilseeds, guar, sorghum, maize, etc. are on the verge of destruction due to waterlogging. Fields are filled with water up to three to four feet. The district has become waterlogged due to this natural calamity.
5 thousand acres of crops in danger
Due to heavy rains in the catchment area of Parvati Dam, the Water Resources Department has released more than 24000 cusecs of water by opening 14 gates 3 feet early on Thursday. About 5 thousand acres of Kharif crop in Dholpur, Baseri, Sampu and Rajakheda subdivisions are in danger of being completely ruined. Water is entering the settlements in rural areas. People’s kutcha and pucca houses are falling down. The rain all around has created panic. The crisis of fodder for cattle rearing is also deepening for the farmers. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department is warning of heavy rain in eastern Rajasthan. In the Bharatpur division, heavy rain with thunder is being warned in the next 1 to 2 days.
Flood threat in about 50 villages
After the release of water from Parvati Dam into the river, there can be a flood threat on about 50 villages situated around the river, due to which the district administration has gone on alert mode. Tehsildar Rahul Kumar Dhakad said, ‘The villagers living around the river have been alerted. The concerned Patwari, Girdavar and Sarpanchs have been instructed to keep an eye. After the release of water from Parvati Dam, there is a strong possibility of the Bari Basedi road being closed. Apart from this, Kolari Maloni road and Sakhwara Maniya road have been closed due to the overflowing of Parvati river.’
