95 PG students among Bikaner NEET PG top 100 rankers chose non-surgical branch.

Bikaner : NEET PG counseling is going on by Bikaner Medical Counseling Committee. Amidst some controversies, NEET PG counseling is also going on in many states. A case related to NEET PG has reached the court in Rajasthan. Meanwhile, a new trend is emerging in NEET PG. Now, in view of the violent incidents happening among PG students and doctors, toppers are taking more interest in branches like Radiology and Medicine. At the same time, students are less interested in difficult branches like surgical. Among the students who secured top-100 ranks in NEET PG in the year 2024, only two students chose surgery and four chose gynecology branch. This figure is only 20 among the top-500 students and only 37 out of the top-1000 students chose the surgical branch.

On the other hand, 45 of those who secured top-100 ranks chose the Radiology branch. Whereas, 172 students who secured 500 rank and 125 who got top-1000 rank have shown interest in Radiology branch. Radiology branch is considered to be the safest branch. There is very little risk in radiology practice. At the same time, doctors can easily setup this branch.

It takes time to acquire skills in surgery

Regarding the decreasing trend in surgery, Dr. Shankul Dwivedi, Secretary of IMA Junior Doctors Network, says that it takes a lot of time to become skilled in surgery. This is not the case in other branches including radiology. There is no direct communication with the patient in radiology. Although career is available in both the branches, now PG students are choosing Radiology more due to security reasons.

Admission Trend: Due to violence against doctors, students want safe branch

This trend of the branch has changed in the last few years only

Due to less seats in non-surgical branch, toppers are choosing the branch. Whereas due to more seats in surgical branch, students are taking the branch even at the lower ranks. The interest of students in the surgical branch has decreased in the last few years.

Certificate course and social media also reasons

Due to social media reels and videos, the trend in these branches has also increased. Especially in the field of cosmetic and fitness, many doctors are expressing their views on social media. People are also getting beauty and fitness tips sitting at home.
