Jaipur : A major chain snatching incident has been exposed in Pratap Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Accused Vijay Pratap Singh alias Banshi and his accomplice Surendra alias Kalla played the dirty game of looting gold chains worth Rs 50 lakh from 36 women in the last 4 months. Both the miscreants used to come to Jaipur from Dholpur on a power bike, where they used to target their victims in deserted areas taking advantage of the darkness.
Police examined 200 CCTV cameras
After an incident on September 3, the police scanned 200 CCTV cameras. The accused were identified on the basis of footage found in Fatehpur-Sikri. Police said that Vijay Pratap already has 18 cases registered against him and he is a history-sheeter of Dholpur. He did not use mobile during the incident so that the police could not track him.
Clue of miscreants found in police tracking
Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph said that after the crime, the accused used to go to Delhi to give the stolen chain to his second wife. When the police tracked them in Delhi, their bike slipped, making it easy to catch both of them.
More than 36 chain snatching incidents confessed
According to Additional DCP Asharam Chaudhary, these accused have committed more than 36 chain snatching incidents in various police station areas of Jaipur. Police has also recovered 12 chains of 150 grams of gold and the Pulsar bike used in the crime from them. More than 20 chain snatching incidents have taken place in Jaipur in a month. Apart from this, incidents of chain snatching are also happening continuously in the surrounding cities.
He used to give the stolen chain to his first wife
Police believes that both the snatchers together have targeted Jaipur as well as the nearby districts. Information revealed that Vijay Pratap Singh alias Banshi’s first wife lives in Dholpur. He used to give the snatched chains to her. Investigation is going on to find out how many chains he has given to her.
