The history of Ranakpur Jain temple is very ancient which takes us to the time of Mewar dynasty. Ranakpur Jain temple was built by four devotees named Acharya Shyamsundar ji, Dharanshah, Rana Kumbha and Depa. It is said that Dharanshah saw Nalinigulma Viman in a dream one night and inspired by this dream, he decided to build this temple. When Dharanshah asked Rana Kumbha for land for the construction of the temple, he happily agreed to give the land. Many big and experienced architects were called for the construction of the temple but Dharanshah did not like the plan of anyone, and finally he was satisfied with the plan of Deepak, a simple architect from Mundara. After which architect Deepak prepared the architecture of Ranakpur Jain temple. It took about 60 years to build the Ranakpur Jain temple. The construction of this wonderful temple lasted till 1458 AD. At that time, about 99 lakh rupees were spent in the construction of this temple.
Ranakpur Temple is spread over a very large area, which mainly includes Chaumukha Temple, Amba Mata Temple, Parshvanath Temple and Surya Temple etc. Chaumukha Temple dedicated to Adinath Tirthankar is the largest and most important temple here.
