Aam Aadmi Party did not want Dalit class to become mayor: Vijendra Gupta

New Delhi, November 14 (IANS). Mahesh Kumar Khichi of Aam Aadmi Party has won the Mayor election of Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). He has been elected the new Mayor of Delhi.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijendra Gupta, told IANS on Thursday that the anti-Dalit Aam Aadmi Party had kept the general category from sitting on the reserved seat for the last seven months and did not allow elections to be held. He will have to answer what harm the Dalits of Delhi have done to Kejriwal and how they have snatched away his rights. Why were the elections which were to be held in the month of April, held in November because the total tenure of the Mayor cannot be more than one year.

In response to a question, she said that AAP’s defeat lies in the fact that it did not want a Dalit class to become mayor.

Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party had called it a big victory before the assembly elections to be held next year. In a post on X, the party has said that the Aam Aadmi Party has again defeated the BJP. This victory belongs to the people of Delhi.

Chief Minister Atishi wrote on Twitter, “The anti-Dalit BJP conspired and delayed the Mayor elections. But once again Baba Saheb’s Constitution has won. Thanks to the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi has got a Dalit Mayor.”

Congratulating Mahesh Kumar Khichi, he wrote, “I hope that the politics of Arvind Kejriwal’s work in MCD will move forward under your leadership.”

Former Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal wrote on social media platform Increase.”
