New Delhi, December 4 (IANS). Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan in an extortion case, but before his release, he was arrested in another case.
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police had arrested Baliyan in an extortion case on November 30 this year. On Wednesday the court approved his bail. However, soon after this he was arrested in the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act) case.
The court granted bail to Naresh Baliyan on a personal bond of Rs 50 thousand. Immediately after this bail, the Crime Branch told the court that Naresh Balyan has been arrested in the MCOCA case.
Baliyan was arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on November 30, 2024 after an audio clip of his conversation with gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu surfaced.
The court has also sought response from the police on Baliyan’s bail plea. The court issued notice to Delhi Police and directed it to file its reply by Wednesday. The police claimed during the hearing that Balyan did not cooperate in the investigation.
Delhi Police on Wednesday approached the court seeking arrest of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan in a fresh case of alleged organized crime.
The police made this application after the accused was produced before the court at the end of his three-day custody period in an extortion case.
The police urged Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Paras Dalal to send the accused to judicial custody, and also sought his re-arrest in another case registered under MCOCA.
Baliyan, the MLA from Delhi’s Uttam Nagar seat, was in police custody following allegations of his involvement with a syndicate linked to gangster Kapil Sangwan. In this case last year, he is accused of threatening property owners through gang members to sell their properties at low prices.
