Accident in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, roof of operation theater collapsed

Kolkata, 14 November (IANS). R.G. of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. A major accident was averted at Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday when the roof of the operation theater located in the hospital premises suddenly collapsed. However, there are no casualties in this incident.

It is being told that when this accident happened, the operation theater was closed and no one was present there.

A group of doctors working at RG Kar Medical College, which has been in the news for wrong reasons for some time, have linked the roof collapse incident to financial irregularities during the tenure of former principal Sandeep Ghosh. He claimed that the accident occurred due to years of negligence in maintaining the hospital infrastructure.

Sandeep Ghosh is accused of getting the work related to infrastructure in the hospital done by his trusted agencies instead of the State Public Works Department (PWD).

A junior doctor associated with the hospital said, “The condition of the operation theater where the roof collapsed was in bad condition for a long time. The hospital authorities have been informed about this, but it was continuously ignored by them. However, the roof collapsed. The collapse occurred when the operation theater was not operational. Had the roof collapse occurred during an operation, the lives of the patients, doctors and nursing staff present there could have been in danger.”

Another junior doctor said that apart from this operation theatre, the condition of many other medical rooms in the surgery department of the hospital is also very bad. Similar accidents in the future cannot be ruled out until it is completely repaired and maintained.
