Jaipur : The inclination of students towards commerce in higher education in the state is decreasing. Government colleges are yearning for applications. The situation is such that 50 percent of the seats in commerce colleges are going vacant at the graduate level. Due to less applications, admission in commerce is being given in colleges at only 50 percent. Whereas in other states, the trend of commerce is such that the cutoff is going up to 90 percent. The main reason behind this is that the syllabus of commerce has not been upgraded in Rajasthan. Commerce is being taught on the same pattern as it has been going on for the last 30 years. Students have to bear the brunt of this. Students are not getting jobs after Commerce UG. It is worth noting that there are 138 graduate colleges of commerce faculty in the state. There are about 30 thousand seats in these. If we look at the admissions of 2023-24 last year, only 11 thousand students had taken admission.
If innovation starts then the trend will increase
In Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi near Rajasthan, the maximum applications are received in commerce B.Com (Hons), BBA, M.Com (Business Administration and Economic Administration). The cutoffs in these are going above 90 percent. Experts say that only B.Com is being conducted in the colleges of the state. The syllabus should be such that it provides employment
The trend of decline in Commerce subject continues in Rajasthan. Students are not showing interest in Commerce as compared to Science and Humanities. The main reason behind this is that integrated courses of Commerce have not been started. Syllabus has started being made according to the new education policy but there is no focus on job orientation. Now it has started. However, its results will be seen in the coming two years. The government should form a committee regarding Commerce subject and prepare such a syllabus as per the market demand, which will increase the interest of the children and provide job opportunities.
