After Adelaide Test, India slipped to third place in WTC standings, Australia on top

New Delhi, December 8 (IANS). Australia has leveled the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-1 by defeating India by ten wickets in the second Test played at Adelaide Oval. With this win, Australia has again reached the first position in the rankings for the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship.

The point percentage of the team captained by Pat Cummins has now reached 60.71, leaving behind India and South Africa. This is their ninth win in the current World Test Championship cycle.

On the other hand, the Indian team captained by Rohit Sharma had to drop to third place after this crushing defeat. India’s point percentage has dropped from 61.11 to 57.29. India will now have to win the remaining three Test matches in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to have a chance of reaching the third consecutive Test Championship final to be held at Lord’s next year.

South Africa’s point percentage is 59.26 and they are in a strong position in the ongoing home Test against Sri Lanka. If they win this match, they can reach first place in the rankings.

On the third day of the Day-Night Test played at Adelaide Oval, Pat Cummins bowled brilliantly and took 5 wickets in 14 overs and restricted India to just 175 runs in their second innings.

Australia needed only 19 runs to win, which they achieved in just 3.2 overs. With this, the Kangaroos made a strong comeback in the series. Australia had earlier lost the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth by 295 runs. The second match, which was played with pink balls, became the shortest Test between Australia and India, with just 1031 balls bowled and the match ending before two hours of the third day.

In this match, Travis Head, who played a quick inning of 140 runs in 141 balls, has been given the Player of the Match.
