There is a religious belief that by doing this, Goddess Lakshmi arrives in the house, which creates an atmosphere of happiness and prosperity in the family. At the same time, lighting a lamp of cow ghee is considered auspicious to get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, there is a tradition of lighting the first lamp on the night of Diwali for Goddess Lakshmi.
