After Alwar March, electric buses will replace private vehicles

Alwar News Desk: A trial run of electric bus operation was conducted in Sariska on Tuesday on the orders of the Supreme Court regarding the management and conservation of Alwar Sariska Tiger Reserve and Pandupol Hanuman Temple area. The hearing of suo-moto writ (civil) will be held in the court on Wednesday. Earlier, in the hearing held on September 18, the state government had given an affidavit regarding accepting all the conditions of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) of the Supreme Court. CEC had asked for a complete ban on the entry of private vehicles in Sariska after March 31, 2025, and operation of electric buses. On this, the state government said in the affidavit that they will operate them but has asked for additional time of 6 months.

According to the conditions of the committee, only electric buses are to be operated in Sariska. To begin with, a trial has been conducted. A 14 seater electric bus was brought to Sariska headquarters for its trial. Abhimanyu Saharan, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Sariska Tiger Project, boarded a bus with local staff from Sariska Sadar Gate to Pandupol. It took about 3 hours. This mini bus can run up to 60-70 km in a single charge. The firm from which the mini e-bus was procured will submit a detailed report after operation to determine the cost and fare. After this, a decision will be taken to operate e-buses as per the order of the Supreme Court.

CEC had talked about denotification of Sariska-Tahla State Highway 29A. It has been denotified on 7 September. Apart from this, orders have also been issued to ban the entry of commercial vehicles in the 18 km stretch from Kushalgarh Tiraha to Thanku Board on State Highway No. 13. The Global Tiger Forum has started working to implement a new tiger conservation plan by March 2026 on the recommendations of the CEC. Work has been started on banning the entry of vehicles from Siliberi Gate. Apart from this, it has also been said to accept all other recommendations but has asked for additional time to implement some recommendations.
