Chandigarh, December 3 (IANS). After the sentencing, Shiromani Akali President Sukhbir Singh Badal reached the Golden Temple in Amritsar on a wheelchair with a plaque around his neck. As part of the punishment he will have to work as a servant in the Golden Temple. Apart from door duty, they will also have to serve langar.
In fact, the Akal Takht has sentenced him citing the mistakes he committed while in power.
At the same time, Sukhbir Singh Badal’s leg is still injured. For this reason he was seen sitting on a wheelchair. He will be on duty outside the clock tower of the Golden Temple for two days from December 3.
During this time, a placard was also seen around the neck of Sukhbir Singh Badal. This is the plaque of forgiveness put up by Akal Takht. Along with this, a spear is also visible in his hand. His sentence has started and currently, he is serving it. During this time, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa also arrived to serve the sentence. A plate was also seen around his neck and a spear in his hand.
When he was asked about serving the sentence, he said that this is God’s order for me and I will follow it. I will not show any negligence in following this. As part of his punishment he will perform the duty of a sevadar at Sri Darbar Sahib. After this, he will spend two days at Sri Keshgarh Sahib, then two days at Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo, two days at Sri Muktsar Sahib and two days at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, wearing a plaque around his neck and carrying a lance in his hand.
However, this is not the first time that a Sikh leader has been sentenced in this manner, in fact many Sikh leaders have been sentenced before. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa were also sentenced to clean the toilets and utensils of the Gurudwara. However, due to Sukhbir Badal’s leg injury and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s ill health, he was exempted from the punishment. Hence, he has been sentenced to serve as a wheelchair-bound servant.
Sukhbir Singh Badal was given this punishment because he had withdrawn the cases registered against Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in Salabatpura in 2007. Apart from this, the second allegation against him is that he had betrayed his sect for the sake of vote bank.
