Chittorgarh : Rajasthan’s kitchen budget has deteriorated due to food inflation. Till now the taste of the food plate seemed to be deteriorating only due to onion, now the name of garlic has also been added to it. Garlic, which was being sold at Rs 100 to Rs 150 per kg three-four months ago, has now reached Rs 500 per kg. Due to uncontrolled prices, there are chances of further increase in the price of garlic. Due to which farmers are reducing its sales in grain markets.
Garlic is being sold at Rs 500 per kg
The situation is such that just two days ago, the highest bid for direct purchase of garlic in Nimbahera Agricultural Produce Market Committee of Chittorgarh district was Rs 91 thousand 101 per quintal, which is the most expensive bid till date. Due to continuously increasing prices, farmers have expressed fear of further increase in the prices of garlic in the coming days, due to which they have reduced its sales in the market.
There will be further rise in prices
The demand for garlic increases in winter. Due to formation of seeds after sowing of old garlic, the arrival of old garlic in the market has started decreasing. For this reason the prices are not decreasing at present. Farmers said that until new garlic comes in the market, the kitchen budget of common people will continue to deteriorate. Garlic prices have remained high for the last two years. Due to this, when there was huge arrival of garlic in the market after sowing, even then the garlic which was sold for Rs 200-300 per kg could not be sold even for Rs 20-30 per kg.
Wait for February for price reduction
At present, we will have to wait till February for the price of garlic to come down. It is believed that the price is likely to come down only when the new consignment of garlic reaches the market this month. Like onion, garlic is also cultivated in both Kharif and Rabi seasons. Garlic comes in the category of Kharif crops. It is sown in June-July and harvested in October-November, while Rabi crop is from September-November to March-April.
