Jodhpur : During the Taranshakti war exercise, the pilots of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas were seen wearing a special helmet MSA Gallet LA-100. These helmets have been designed keeping in mind the adverse conditions of fighter aircraft. The Air Force had ordered such helmets in 2022. Currently, only the Rafale squadron is using such helmets. The pilots of Tejas and other fighter aircraft wearing the MSA Gallet LA-100 helmet is a sign of complete modernization of the Indian Air Force.
Why is this helmet special?
1. Windblast Resistance: This helmet provides windblast resistance (resistance against strong wind) to the pilot of a high-speed fighter aircraft to ensure oxygen supply and against strong wind. This allows the pilot to easily go at supersonic speed.
2. Easy to exit: This helmet is lightweight. The ejection process from the cockpit during an emergency has been simplified. The oxygen mask has been set up with excellent engineering.
3. G Force Resilience: The helmet’s lightweight structure provides maximum comfort during high G-force maneuvers. Increases the pilot’s ability to stay in the air for longer while reducing fatigue.
4. Advanced Visor System: The helmet has a solar visor system to protect against UV and infrared. A special visor has been provided even during low visibility so that the pilot can see easily.
5. Polystyrene: The helmet is provided with internal padding of polystyrene, which provides stability during high speeds.
6. Fiber: Special fiber is able to withstand shocks in case of possible accidents.
