New Delhi, November 24 (IANS). According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), air pollution levels in Delhi and its surrounding areas have raised concerns. By 7:30 am on Sunday morning, the average air quality index (AQI) of the capital Delhi had reached 366 points, which falls in the severe category. Apart from this, pollution levels in other major cities of Delhi NCR also remained worrying.
Talking about cities adjacent to Delhi, AQI was 309 in Faridabad, 240 in Gurugram, 312 in Ghaziabad, 304 in Greater Noida and 309 in Noida. All these cities also fall in the poor category, indicating a serious threat to health.
The AQI level has crossed 400 and reached 500 in eight major areas of Delhi. 410 marks have been recorded in Alipur, 412 in Anand Vihar, 408 in Nehru Nagar, 404 in Vivek Vihar, 409 in Wazirpur. The air quality in these areas is in the severe category, which can directly adversely affect the health of the citizens.
Apart from this, pollution levels are also quite high in many other areas of Delhi. 392 in Ashok Vihar, 313 in Aya Nagar, 362 in Burari Crossing, 353 in Chandni Chowk, 354 in Mathura Road, 356 in Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, 400 in Dwarka Sector 8, 327 in IGI Airport, 380 in Dilshad Garden, ITO 320, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium 340, Lodhi Road 302, 372 in Major Dhyanchand Stadium, 328 in Mandir Marg, 319 in Najafgarh, 348 in North Campus DU, 319 in NSIT Dwarka, 371 in Okhla Phase 2, 388 in Patparganj, 370 in Punjabi Bagh, 327 in Pusha, RK Puram. 373, Rohini 382, Shadipur 385 marks have been recorded in D.C., 357 in Siri Fort, 340 marks in Sri Aurobindo Marg.
The AQI in most areas in and around the capital is above 300, which ranges from poor to severe levels. If AQI remains at this level then there may be problems in breathing and this situation can be very dangerous especially for children, elderly and people suffering from respiratory diseases.
