Mumbai, November 24 (IANS). The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Sunday elected party president Ajit Pawar as the party leader in the Assembly.
Ajit Pawar was appointed the leader of the legislature party in a meeting chaired by party state president and Lok Sabha MP Sunit Tatkare. Anil Patil was again appointed as the Chief Whip.
On this occasion, NCP National Working President Praful Patel, State President Sunil Tatkare and most of the newly elected MLAs were present.
Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party said that NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule should apologize for her party fielding Yugendra Pawar against Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on the Baramati assembly seat.
NCP president Ajit Pawar defeated his nephew and NCP (SP) candidate Yugendra from his traditional Baramati constituency by over one lakh votes.
According to the results of the 288-member state elections declared on Saturday, Ajit Pawar’s party contested 59 seats, won 41 and secured 9.01 percent votes.
The result was in stark contrast to the NCP’s poor performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which the party won only one seat out of four in the state.
After securing a big victory, Mahayuti is going to form the government within the next three days and the winning MLAs have been asked to gather in Mumbai immediately.
BJP’s national co-general secretary organization Shiv Prakash and Maharashtra unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule met Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his residence on Sunday and congratulated him on the victory.
While BJP won 132 seats in the grand alliance, Shiv Sena, which is contesting the first assembly elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, won 55 seats and Ajit Pawar’s NCP won 41 seats.
