Ajmer : Late Tuesday night, police from several police stations took sudden action against illegal gravel transportation in the Chambal river area adjacent to Ajmer city. The police seized 34 tractor-trolleys in the operation that continued till the early hours of Wednesday. Also two persons have been arrested. This is the biggest action taken so far in the district against the gravel mafia.
Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Sumit Mehrada, police, DST and forest department teams from 9 police stations including City Circle jointly took action at the ghat on the banks of Chambal. The action taken with heavy police clampdown created a stir among the gravel mafia. Here the mafia people who were filling gravel in trolleys escaped. The police cordoned off and seized 34 tractor-trolleys, some loaded and empty. There is also information about firing from Madhya Pradesh side during the action. However, the police have denied this.
