Ajmer farmers are getting throwaway prices, middlemen are earning profits

Ajmer : Ajmer Even though the government is trying to double the income of farmers, the ground reality is different. Farmers producing grains and vegetables are being exploited by moneylenders and middlemen. The vegetables of Pushkar region are famous not only in the district but even in the capital of the country. But the farmers here are getting ten times less price of vegetables than the market. The situation is such that many vegetables are being sold at prices lower than fodder. When I learned the truth from the farmer stacking vegetables in the field, I understood the matter. Pain was expressed on the farmer’s tongue.

When I talked to the farmer families and laborers preparing to send vegetables to the market and market in Bhagwanpura village near Pushkar on Wednesday, I was shocked about the prices. Farmer Kailash, resident of Bhagwanpura, said that radish is being sold at the rate of Rs 2 to 3 per kg. Whereas the price of radish of Pushkar region in the market is Rs 20 per kg. The price of spinach was also said to be Rs 2 to 3 per kg. The farmer told that the tomato crop has not been planted yet due to damage in winter. But tomatoes are also sold for Rs 20 per kg. Same is the condition of Amla. Amla is being sold in the fields at Rs 10 per kg and in the market it is being sold at Rs 40 per kg.

Huge demand for vegetables of Pushkar region

There is high demand for vegetables from the farms of Pushkar, Bhagwanpura, Kadail, Devnagar, Motisar, Chavandia and surrounding areas. Here vegetables are prepared with pure water from tube wells and wells.

A look at the cost of vegetable production

The farmer told that the cost for radish in 1 bigha is about Rs 20 thousand. The crop was ready in three months but the income from it was Rs 10 to 12 thousand. It costs Rs 300 per laborer to extract radish from the ground and Rs 300 per laborer for cleaning and washing. The workers making radish heaps are being paid Rs 700 per day.
