Allegations of religious conversion against the father of Team India’s legendary cricketer, Khar Gymkhana took major action in Mumbai

Jaipur : Khar Gymkhana, one of the oldest clubs in Mumbai, has canceled the membership of Team India’s veteran cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues. This action of Khar Gymkhana has been taken after Jemima’s father Ivan Rodrigues was accused of religious conversion. At Gymkhana’s annual general meeting, several members complained about the abuse of membership privileges by Jemima’s father Ivan Rodriguez.

According to Shiv Malhotra, managing committee member of Khar Gymkhana, Ivan Rodrigues was booking the Presidential Hall at discounted rates using Jemima’s membership. This booking was allegedly done for organizing religious activities, which is a violation of Article 4 of the bye-laws of the Gymkhana. Ivan Rodriguez was also accused of religious conversion.

35 events held in one and a half year

Investigation revealed that around 35 such events had taken place in the last one and a half year. On the question of cancellation of Jemima’s membership, Malhotra said that Jemima is definitely the pride of the country. We wish him good health and wish that he brings more honor to the country. There is no issue regarding this. Membership was given to him. His father abused his privilege by abusing his membership and booking the hall. The booking was for 1.5 years, our members were not getting a place.

Madhavi Ashar, vice president of Khar Gymkhana, said that when the proposal came up for hearing and when it was explained to the members. Hearing all this everyone became upset. Suddenly it happened that his membership should be cancelled. Gymkhana’s decision underlines the importance of following the bylaws of the institution and maintaining fairness in the use of its facilities. Let us tell you that till now Rodrigues has played 03 Tests, 30 ODIs and 104 T20 matches for India and has scored 3087 runs and six wickets.
