Alwar Furnace units can get respite from cheap electricity

Alwar : Preparations are going on in full swing to bring new investors into the Alwar industrial sector. In this context, it is necessary that the investors who have already come here should be given Sanjeevani. Similarly, the furnace sector needs help. Cheap electricity can revive the furnace sector. Due to expensive electricity, nine out of 17 furnace units in the area have been closed. Hundreds of laborers have also lost their jobs. Due to disconnection of electricity connections of these units, the corporation is also incurring a loss of about Rs 150 crore in electricity bills every year. There is also a loss of Rs 80 crore in SGST revenue. Entrepreneurs associated with the furnace unit said that out of 17 units, eight are left in Bhiwadi. Iron ingots are made from raw material in furnace units, these ingots are used in the production of bars. The problem faced by the units in Bhiwadi is that the base rate of electricity here is 7.30 paise per unit, whereas in Punjab this rate is around Rs 6 per unit. Due to cheap electricity in Punjab, raw materials are purchased there at expensive rates, because due to cheap electricity their average price comes out.

Whereas in Bhiwadi, due to the cost of electricity, the entrepreneurs here cannot buy expensive raw materials. The units of Bhiwadi are neither getting cheap scrap nor cheap electricity. Along with this, due to cheap electricity in Chhattisgarh, Raipur and Raigarh, manufacturers buy ingot bars manufactured there. Local rebar producers are buying cheaper material from Punjab and Chhattisgarh than the units in Bhiwadi. In view of this problem, local furnace units have stopped production. Due to closure of production, about five thousand laborers are facing employment crisis.
