Mumbai, November 21 (IANS). Film industry’s brilliant singer-composer and Oscar winner A.R. Rehman and his wife Saira Banu have decided to separate after 29 years of marriage. Celebrity advocate Vandana Shah spoke to IANS on the increasing problem of divorce in the country and told what is the situation of divorce across the world today.
A.R. Rehman’s wife Saira Banu’s advocate Vandana Shah said, “Divorce has now become a guest who never leaves the house. There was a time when relationships would survive despite a million problems, but this is no longer the case. This is quite worrying. Let me tell you that I have received so many cases that I cannot even count them. In fact, in today’s time when someone wants to get married, I would say considering today’s situation that we should assume that this marriage is going to last only for a few days or years.”
He said, “You should be prepared that perhaps this marriage of mine may soon turn into divorce. The reason behind this is that now the cases of divorce have increased by four-five times. You cannot tie it to Western culture or Indian culture. In today’s time, Instagram, Facebook and social sites are there in America as well as in India, so now there is nothing left for any one place in the world. Outside India, divorce is now common Has been.”
It is noteworthy that A.R. Rehman and wife Saira Banu have decided to separate after 29 years of marriage. The musician has also written an emotional note on social media regarding this. He described it as a ‘shattering’ decision and said that he hoped the relationship would last for 30 years.

Earlier, Saira’s lawyer Vandana Shah had issued an official statement regarding the couple’s decision to separate. The statement said, “After many years of marriage, Saira has taken the difficult decision to separate from her husband A.R. Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Rahman married Saira in 1995. It was an arranged marriage. They have three children, Khatija, Rahima and Ameen.
