Jaipur : Student union elections are banned in all universities in Rajasthan. However, college students are constantly demanding student union elections. For this, protests are being held in many universities. ABVP and NSUI leaders are also involved in this. But despite this, the student union elections are not even being considered by the Bhajanlal government. While the senior BJP leaders have also urged the government to conduct student union elections as soon as possible. Which also includes Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Some university vice-chancellors have also spoken in favor of conducting student union elections. Even after this, recently Deputy CM Premchand Bairwa had said that there is no thought about student union elections right now. Many senior opposition leaders have also come forward in favor of conducting student union elections in Rajasthan. Which includes Sachin Pilot, Ravindra Singh Bhati and Ashok Gehlot. Now Ashok Gehlot has once again advocated student union elections. He has demanded Bhajanlal government to conduct elections.
There is no situation to postpone the election
Ashok Gehlot, while demanding student union elections, wrote in his post that ‘It is not right for the BJP government of Rajasthan not to restart the student union elections. During our government, the elections were postponed due to the preparations for the assembly elections, but now there is no such situation.’ In Rajasthan politics, many MLAs, MPs, ministers of the ruling and opposition parties, including me, have come from student union politics. The Chief Minister himself has been a member of ABVP. Student union elections are the initial school of politics, so elections should be started and compliance of the model code of conduct made for student union elections should also be ensured. Force was used on all the student leaders demanding student union elections, which is not right.
Why student union elections were not held in Rajasthan
Let us tell you, student union elections were not held in all the colleges and universities of Rajasthan in the session 2023-2024. At that time, the Vice Chancellors of the colleges of Rajasthan had given their opinion regarding not holding student union elections in the Ashok Gehlot government. The reason given for this was that muscle power and money power are used in the elections. Although the conditions of the Lingdoh Committee were implemented for the student union elections, but these conditions are violated fiercely. In which it is said that more than 5 thousand cannot be spent in the elections. But lakhs are spent by the candidates in this. Along with this, rallies are held with luxury cars. While there are fights among the students, attacks are made on each other.
