According to beliefs, Jeenmata was born in the royal family of Chauhan dynasty of Ghanghu, a small village in Churu district of Rajasthan. Due to family discord, Jeen became angry and came and sat on the hills of Aravalli mountain range near Sikar. To pacify Jeen, her brother Harsh also followed her. But Jeen refused to go back and started penance on the hill itself. When his sister did not return, elder brother Harsh also sat on the nearby hills and indulged in penance. Mother Jeena is considered to be the incarnation of Shakti, while her elder brother Harsh is said to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. The ancient temple of Mother Jeen is situated in Jeenmata village, while the temple of her elder brother Harsh is built in the name of Harshanath Temple in the Aravalli hills at a short distance from Jeenmata Ji Temple.

Seeing this scene, Mughal ruler Aurangzeb also had to bow before Mother Jeen Bhavani. At that time he apologized to Jeen Mata and promised to send oil from the court of Delhi for the eternal flame burning in the temple. Due to the attacks of whirlwinds, Jeenmata also came to be known as the goddess of whirlwinds.

During this nine-day Lakhi fair, lakhs of devotees will reach the court of Jeen Mata. This time this fair will continue till October 12. During this time, special decoration is being done in Jeen Mata Ji temple with safflower and rose flowers of Kolkata.
