Australia on front foot against India, time to bring home the Border-Gavaskar trophy: Nathan Lyon

Perth, November 18 (IANS). Australia has not tasted success against India on home soil in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series for almost ten years, but experienced off-spinner Nathan Lyon is positive about his team’s chances this time.

Of course, Australia has suffered consecutive defeats in the home Test series against India but the Kangaroos have defeated India in the World Test Championship 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023 at home. In such a situation, their confidence will be more than that of India. Australia defeated India by 209 runs to win the second edition of the ICC World Test Championship at The Oval in June 2023. This would be their first win in the two-year championship cycle.

Lyon told Fox Sports, “India have had the edge on us in the last few series. But if you look at the World Test Championship (final) in England, we were able to beat them there. I think that gives us You will definitely get some confidence this summer.”

He further added, “We are playing against a world-class team, but we can take a lot of confidence from where we are as an Australian cricket team. I think we are on a journey to becoming a great team. However “We’re not there yet and we have more work to do, but we have an opportunity to do something special this summer.”

India has won the last two Test tours of Australia by the same margin of 2-1, but before the Australia tour, Team India suffered a 0-3 defeat in the home series at the hands of New Zealand earlier this month. . However, Lyon is hopeful that India will make a comeback during the Test series to be played in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia.

He said, “I think they are very dangerous. They are a great team and they know how to prepare at their best and come here and perform. It is going to be a great Test series. It has been 10 years since Australia won this trophy. There are only a few of us who will actually be on the team that has won the trophy, so it’s time to bring it home.”
