Bangladesh expects to get US$1.1 billion from ADB and World Bank by December

Dhaka, November 20 (IANS). Bangladesh is expected to get a loan of 600 million dollars from ‘Asian Development Bank’ (ADB) and 500 million dollars from ‘World Bank’ by December. Finance Secretary Mohammad Khairuzzaman Mojumdar gave this information.

According to Xinhua news agency, Mojumdar said this during a press conference organized at the Finance Ministry on Tuesday to mark the completion of 100 days of the interim government.

Mojumdar said that the policies implemented by the interim administration have been positively accepted by donor agencies like ‘International Monetary Fund’ (IMF) and ‘World Bank’.

The Finance Secretary said, ‘The policy measures of our interim government have yielded good results, which have exceeded our initial expectations in terms of funding. For example, we successfully negotiated a $600 million loan with ADB and we expect to receive the funds by December.

He also highlighted the talks with the World Bank, which agreed to provide loan support of $500 million within the same time frame.

The Finance Secretary said, ‘Originally, these loans were fixed at $300 million and $250 million respectively, but later due to favorable negotiations, these were increased to double.’

Mojumdar said that the government is seeking more financial assistance from the IMF. “We have requested an additional $1 billion in assistance from the IMF for this year,” he said.

The Finance Secretary said, “Discussions will be completed after the visit of the ‘IMF’ team on December 4 and we are optimistic about the outcome.”
