Kota : Kota A unique ‘bank’ of Sambar-Chital will be created for adequate nutrition of tigers in Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve and other forests. This need was being expressed for a long time with the aim of increasing the prey base in the forest. Recently, during his stay in Kota, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and the Chief Wildlife Warden had also given instructions to make such arrangements for the pre-base. NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority) had also laid down the condition of adequate pre-base before shifting of tigers in Mukundhara. It will be prepared in about 30 hectares of land. Apart from Mukundhara, there are plans to develop such enclosures at other places also.
The enclosures will be lush green
These augmentation enclosures will be developed in about 30 hectares of land in the forests. It will be made green. In which grass and other vegetation will be developed. Vegetarian wildlife like Sambar, Chital etc. will be kept in these. Due to their limited area, they will not run away. Their family will continue to grow. As the numbers increase, they can be released into the forest as per requirement.
Adequate pre-base is necessary
All the creatures of the forest are necessary for each other in the form of a food chain. With the increase in the number of tigers, the number of these wildlife should also increase gradually. Due to their shortage, tigers and other such creatures wander from the forest due to lack of adequate food. Many times they come towards settlements. This increases the risk of conflict between humans and them. A plan has been made to develop such enclosures so that these creatures do not have to wander in the forest for food.
Two small enclosures made for the cubs
Two enclosures of one hectare each have been made in Mukundara. Adequate numbers of Sambhar Chital will be kept in these. Their door will also be attached to the door of the cub. These can be released for the cub as per need. Similar arrangements will be made in the enclosure to be built in the proposed 30 hectare land under the scheme.
Tiger kills 60-70 prey in a year
According to experts, a tiger usually kills 60 to 70 victims in a year. According to former forest officer Daulat Singh Shaktawat, for this, the number of Sambar-Chital should remain at least 500-550 in the forest. So that their growth continues and the tiger continues to get prey easily. In case the prey base is not sufficient, it becomes difficult for the tigers. There is a plan to build a prey-augmentation enclosure to increase the prey base. Proposals have just been sent for this. All living beings are dependent on each other. In order to ensure their continuous growth, it has been considered to make such enclosures.
