New Delhi: Team India delivered a strong performance in the five-match Test series hosted by England, finishing with a 2-2 draw. One of the biggest highlights of the final Test match was the sensational performance of fast bowler Mohammad Siraj, who played a pivotal role in India’s victory.
Siraj claimed a total of 9 wickets in the match — 4 in the first innings and 5 in the second, earning him the Player of the Match award. While England does not offer monetary rewards for this title, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stepped in to recognize his efforts.
BCCI to Give Extra ₹5 Lakh
For his excellent bowling performance, Mohammad Siraj will receive an additional ₹5 lakh from the BCCI. This is apart from the ₹15 lakh match fee awarded to each player in the playing XI. Notably, Siraj has played in all five matches of the series.
According to media reports, any Indian bowler who takes five or more wickets in a single innings is awarded ₹5 lakh by the BCCI. Since Siraj achieved this feat in the second innings of the final Test, he qualifies for this extra bonus. His 5-wicket haul helped break the English batting lineup and tilted the match in India’s favour.
Siraj Seals Victory at The Oval
In the fifth and final Test at The Oval, the Indian team pulled off a thrilling win. On the last day, England was just 35 runs away from the target, but Mohammad Siraj stepped up once again. He took 3 of the final 4 wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Gus Atkinson, to seal the win for India.
Kohli Praises Siraj’s Performance
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli heaped praise on Siraj for his match-winning effort. Kohli appreciated Siraj’s consistency and firepower, acknowledging his vital role in helping India level the series in English conditions.
