Now we are preparing to dedicate our craftsmanship in the religious and cultural festival of Mahakumbh. We are all working together to make it a reality. 31 prisoners of the district jail have been weaving carpets for a long time. On the instructions of higher officials, a carpet of 6 x 6 feet with the logo of Mahakumbh is being designed by the prisoners. A team of 10 prisoners is making it. This logo will be displayed at important places in Mahakumbh. Besides, other religious wall hangings and carpets including Lord Shri Ram, Ganesh are being made by the prisoners which will be displayed by setting up stalls in the Maha Kumbh.
He said that by purchasing this, people will be able to increase the respect for this art of prisoners. The prisoners who weave carpets in the jail are also paid remuneration from the money received from the sale of carpets, due to which the prisoner is able to support his family even while being in jail. In this, all the prisoners were already skilled in carpet weaving and some have been given proper training in jail also.
These prisoners, who have made their mark in art, say that this is a proud moment for them.
A prisoner said, “It is a big achievement for us that we are displaying the carpet made by our hands in the Maha Kumbh. “It gives us an opportunity to reclaim our place in society.”
The display of these carpets in the Maha Kumbh is not just an art form, but also a message that opportunities to overcome difficulties and give a new direction to one’s life through hard work never end.
Through this initiative, the prisoners of Bhadohi have not only increased the respect for their skills but have also shown that through art and hard work, new heights can be achieved with confidence and pride.
