Bhairon Singh Shekhawat left home after taking 10 rupees from his wife, traveled from Rajasthan CM to Vice President’s chair

Jaipur : Today is the 101st birth anniversary of three-time Chief Minister of Rajasthan and former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Bhairon Singh was born on October 23, 1923 in Khachariyawas of Sikar district. Shekhawat’s father was working as a teacher in a school. After completing his studies, Bhairon Singh started working in the police. It is said that Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who was involved in the case of assault in talkies, had to resign from the police job.

Set out on a political journey with Rs 10

According to the information, Bishan Singh, a brother of Bhairon Singh, was associated with Jan Sangh and worked as a teacher. One day Lal Krishna Advani, who was looking after the work of Jan Sangh in Rajasthan, came to his house. He asked Bishan Singh to contest from Data-Ramgarh seat, but he refused to contest and asked his brother Bhairon Singh to contest. When it was decided for Bhairon Singh to contest the elections, he took Rs 10 from his wife Suraj Kanwar and set out on his political journey.

Shekhawat became MLA for the first time in 1952

When the results of the assembly elections were declared in 1952, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat became MLA for the first time from Data-Ramgarh seat. After this, he became a member of the Legislative Assembly from different seats for three consecutive times till 1972. Not only this, Bhairon Singh was also a Rajya Sabha MP from 1974-1977. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s fate changed after going to jail during the Emergency.

Became CM of Rajasthan in 1977

Rajasthan Assembly elections were held in 1977 and out of 200 assembly seats, the Janata Party got more than 150 seats. When the turn came to become the Chief Minister after the Janata Party got the majority, at that time three names were at the forefront. However, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat won the election for CM face and became the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the first time on June 22, 1977 and held the CM’s chair till February 15, 1980.

Journey to the Vice President’s chair

After this, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat also worked as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 15 July 1980 to 30 December 1989. Then he became CM for the second time on March 4, 1990 and remained there till December 15, 1992. After this, Bhairon Singh took oath as Chief Minister for the third time on December 4, 1993 and remained Chief Minister till December 1, 1998. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat became the Vice President of India on August 19, 2002 and held this post till July 21, 2007. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat died on May 15, 2010.
