Jaipur : The issue of stopping the free electricity scheme being provided in the state by the Bhajan Lal government in Rajasthan has been raised in the Assembly. Opposition MLAs have questioned the government regarding this decision. The previous Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan had started a scheme to provide 100 units of free electricity to domestic consumers. But the Rajasthan government has said that this scheme will not be taken forward. The Bhajan Lal Sharma government in Rajasthan has stopped many populist schemes started during the tenure of the previous Congress government. This week, the state’s Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar had announced the closure of the free electricity scheme in the Assembly.
The opposition asked the government a question in the assembly
In the Rajasthan Assembly, BSP MLA Manoj Nyangli asked the government a question about stopping the free electricity scheme. In response, Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar said that at present, new consumers will not be given 100 units of free electricity. The minister said that the government is not planning to reduce the additional charges and taxes on electricity consumption charges. “There are 1 crore 29 lakh consumers in the state. At present, 98 lakh 23 thousand are being given benefits. The number of unregistered consumers in the state is 30 lakh. In such a situation, if the previous government had the intention, it would have been given to all consumers.” The BSP MLA then asked a supplementary question and alleged that the people of Rajasthan are being discriminated against. Responding to this, the Energy Minister said that his government is not discriminating, but the previous government has done the discrimination, which had made registration mandatory for free electricity.
Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar hits back, asks questions to the opposition
Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar said, “There are 1 crore 29 lakh consumers in the state. Currently, 98 lakh 23 thousand are being given benefits. The number of unregistered consumers in the state is 30 lakh. In such a situation, if the previous government had the intention, it would have been given to all consumers. The Congress government kept a rider of registration.” However, after this MLA Manoj Nyangli said that ‘Now it is your government, so you start registration’. The MLA also alleged that the government wants to increase the fuel surcharge instead of reducing it. The Energy Minister said on this that the Rajasthan government is bearing the fuel surcharge of consumers up to 200 units. During this discussion in the House, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie said that ‘two laws cannot work in one state. Half are being given, and half are not, this is discrimination’. Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar countered this and asked the question that ‘If it was your government’s intention, then why did you keep the scope of registration?’
