Sikar : Rajasthan farmers are very happy. The Government of India and Rajasthan are constantly trying to promote coarse grains. As per the budget announcement to promote coarse grains (millets), the Agriculture Department has distributed 7 lakh 90 thousand millet and 89 thousand sorghum seed minikits free of cost to the farmers in the financial year 2024-25. This will increase the production of coarse grains in the state and will also increase the income of the farmers.
Sowing of millet-jowar has been done in 4960 lakh hectare area in the state
Agriculture Commissioner Kanhaiya Lal Swami said that in Kharif 2024, millet and sorghum have been sown in 4 thousand 960 lakh hectare area in the state. Out of which millet has been sown in 4,304 lakh hectare area and jowar in 660.73 lakh hectare area.
Millets are good for health
Millets include cereals like bajra, jowar, ragi and kondo. They are rich in nutrients, proteins and minerals. Due to medicinal properties in millets, their consumption can prevent malnutrition, obesity, diabetes and serious heart-related diseases. Scientists believe that the consumption of millets in the food plate plays an important role in maintaining a healthy body.
Coarse grain cultivation requires less irrigation
Coarse grains can be easily cultivated even in less irrigated and less fertile land. Coarse grains are considered to be such a crop that faces important challenges like food, climate change. It is noteworthy that after the proposal of India, the United Nations declared the year 2023 as the International Year of Nutritious Cereals to promote 8 coarse grains including millet, sorghum, and Kondo.
