With the results of the by-elections, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has emerged as the megastar of BJP in the state. The kind of results that came made it clear that CM Sharma has passed it. People are also saying in hushed tones that the work which Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Vasundhara Raje could not do, CM Bhajan Lal has done in a few months.
BJP had won only 22 times in 96 by-elections.
According to the data of the State Election Commission, since 1955 till now, 96 by-elections have been held in the assembly constituencies in the state. In these, Congress has dominated the most i.e. 56 times. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which came into existence in 1980, has won only 22 times. Congress has won 56 by-elections in about 77 years and BJP has won 22 times in 42 years.
Won 5 out of 7 seats in 2024
The most interesting thing is that this time in the 2024 by-elections, BJP has won 5 out of 7 seats simultaneously, in which the 16-year-old fort of RLP supremo Hanuman Beniwal has been breached on Nagaur seat. Jhunjhunu assembly seat, the legacy of the Ola family, which has been a stronghold of Congress for 21 years, has been captured. After capturing these seats, the expectations of CM Sharma and the party high command have increased.
How CM Bhajan Lal’s stature increased in 2024 by-elections
If we talk about the by-elections held during the tenure of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Vasundhara, then Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was considered the uncrowned king of the state politics. Even his opponents were always impressed by his understanding of politics. Whereas Vasundhara Raje has always been considered an expert in desert politics. But even during her time, she could not register such a big victory as CM Bhajan Lal has registered.
In 1955, he had unilaterally dominated the by-elections on 15 seats.
The highest number of assembly by-elections held in the state so far in a year was held in 17 assembly constituencies in the year 1955, in which Congress almost unilaterally maintained its dominance by winning 15 seats, while PSP and one other candidate won one seat. Did. At this time, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s government was in power in Rajasthan.
BJP lost five by-elections from 2014-2018
By-elections were held on four assembly seats of Rajasthan in April-May 2014. During this period Vasundhara government was in power. These included Nasirabad, Vaira, Surajgarh and Kota South. In the by-elections, Congress won Nasirabad, Vaira and Surajgarh seats, while only Kota South seat went to BJP. Whereas in the assembly elections held 5 months ago, the party had won 163 out of 200 seats. By-elections were held on these four seats because the four MLAs who won from here became MPs in the Lok Sabha elections.
After this, by-elections were held on Dholpur seat in 2017, where BJP won, while in 2018, Congress won the by-election on Mandalgarh seat. The most interesting thing about the by-elections on 5 seats is that BJP had lost all the five seats in the assembly elections held in 2023. In a way, BJP’s performance in by-elections has always been weak. Many by-elections have taken place since the formation of the Modi government at the Center in 2014. Of these, BJP has won only 4 times so far.
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma’s precise strategy turned the tables.
Out of the seven seats in Rajasthan where elections were held in these assembly by-elections, BJP already had only one seat, Salubar. Four seats, Dausa, Deoli, Jhunjhunu and Ramgarh were in the possession of Congress while Hanuman Beniwal of RLP was the MLA from Khiwansar of Nagaur. Rajkumar Rot of Bharatiya Adivasi Party from Chaurasi. Both these seats became vacant after both of them became MPs. After the announcement of elections, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma changed the electoral game by selecting tickets and showing accurate strategy. And out of 7 seats, 5 seats fell in the lap of BJP.
