Kota News Desk: Student suicides, new guidelines to regulate coaching centers and expansion of coaching brands in other cities have slowed down the business of coaching centers and hostels in Kota. People associated with the related industry say that the number of students in Kota has come down from the usual two to 2.5 lakh to 85,000 to one lakh this year, due to which the annual revenue has come down from Rs 6,500 to Rs 7,000 crore to Rs 3,500 crore.
Industrialists looking for alternative opportunities
Govindram Mittal, regional chairperson of United Council of Rajasthan Industries, said the educational system and environment of Kota is unmatched and will attract students in the next session, which will compensate for the decline. He said industrialists are looking for alternative opportunities and they are planning to set up information technology (IT) centers in the city on the lines of Bengaluru.
In the same year, the Karnataka government had approved a bill to reserve 50 percent management posts and 75 percent non-management posts in the private sector for locals, which was criticized by the entire industry. Mittal said that the industrialists here have approached Bengaluru based companies to set up their base in Kota and after the approval of these companies, on the instructions of Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota-Bundi MP Om Birla, land has been identified for the IT sector. Has been taken.
New problem for hostel owner
Kota Hostel Association President Naveen Mittal said that the coaching center and hostel industry here is definitely in trouble. Some owners who have built several hostels by taking loans are finding it difficult to repay the installments. He said that this crisis has badly affected the hostel owners. Most of the 4,500 hostels in the city are 40 to 50 percent vacant.
Naveen stressed that according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Kota lags behind 50 cities in terms of suicide rate, yet the city has been portrayed negatively. Manik Sahni, a hostel manager at Coral Park, said room rents have dropped from Rs 15,000 to Rs 9,000 and many hostels are lying vacant.
