Bikaner : Bikaner The committee has submitted the investigation report of air pollution in Khara village to the Chairman of Pollution Control Board. The report recommends shifting all 40 POP factories located in the mineral zone elsewhere. Otherwise the POP industry may close down. The cause of pollution is considered to be the smoke coming out of these factories. The level of air pollution in Khara village, 20 km from the city, has exceeded PM (particulate matter) 10. It is becoming difficult for the village’s population of about 12 thousand to breathe clean air. During investigation, the air quality index of the village was recorded at more than 900, which was the highest in the country. Due to air pollution, people in every house of the village are suffering from respiratory diseases.
After the matter came to light, the district administration and PCB became active. A committee of three scientists including the Chief Engineer of the Board has investigated about 125 units of POP located in Khara Industrial Area and submitted its report to Board Chairman Aparna Arora. In the report, the cause of pollution has been considered to be the smoke emanating from 40 POP factories located in the Mineral Zone. The committee has recommended shifting all these factories away from the village and has also given necessary suggestions.
Entrepreneurs said – closing factories is not a solution, we will improve
Factory owners have come forward to solve the problem of pollution in Khara village. President of Khara Industries Association, Parvinder Singh says that closing factories is not a solution. He said that the height of the chimney is being increased to reduce particulate matter in the smoke. A pipe has been taken out from it and inserted into the water drum, due to which the particulate matter will settle down and only the smoke will go up.
Pollution out of control in Khara: Case reached Governor and Human Rights, report sought
The issue of air pollution in Khara village has reached the Governor and the Human Rights Commission. Social activist Natthusingh Rathore had written a letter to the Governor to solve the problem of air pollution in Khara village. Raj Bhavan has ordered the Public Prosecution Redressal Department to take action in this regard and provide information within 15 days. On the complaint of a woman, the Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the District Collector. The Collector has sought a factual report from Sumnalata Sethi, Principal of Khara Senior Secondary School.
