New Delhi, December 9 (IANS). The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced the names of its three candidates for the Rajya Sabha by-election. A notification in this regard has been issued by BJP’s National General Secretary Arun Singh.
BJP has announced the names of candidates for Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The party has made former chairperson of the National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma its candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections from Haryana. Rekha Sharma was the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women for about 9 years.
It is noteworthy that after the resignation of BJP leader Krishna Lal Panwar in Haryana, one seat of Rajya Sabha had become vacant. Krishna Lal Panwar reached the assembly elections by winning from Israna seat and has become the Minister of Development and Panchayat, Mines and Geology in the Naib Saini government.
Apart from this, BJP has approved the name of Rayaga Krishnaiah from Andhra Pradesh, while Sujit Kumar has been made the candidate from Odisha.
Earlier, the Election Commission had issued notification for elections on six vacant seats of Rajya Sabha. Elections on these seats will be held on December 20, while the results will also be released on the same day. The Commission has to conduct elections on these seats before December 24.
Out of these six seats, three seats are from Andhra Pradesh. Apart from this, elections will be held on one seat each in Haryana, West Bengal and Odisha. Let us tell you that all the seats have become vacant after the resignation of the sitting MPs. The last date for nomination is 10th December. Candidates can withdraw nomination till 13th December.
