New Delhi, November 29 (IANS). Matthew Kuhneman believes his Sheffield Shield teammate Bo Webster of Tasmania will grab the opportunity to perform well for Australia if given the chance.
Webster has been included in the Australian squad for the upcoming pink-ball Test against India amid concerns over Mitchell Marsh’s fitness. The uncapped all-rounder will join the team in Adelaide next week.
He has been included in the squad following his recent good performances in red ball cricket, including the two-match series against India ‘A’. He has scored 303 runs at an average of 50.50 in the Sheffield Shield this year and has also taken nine wickets.
Kuhnemann told SENQ Breakfast: “I think Bo has got a great arm at the moment, he can perform brilliantly in the field with both bat and ball. He’s also a great player off the field, so if Bo gets a chance If I get a chance, I’m sure he’ll take it with both hands and do great for Australia.”
He was the second-highest run-scorer for Australia A with 145 runs at an average of 72.50. He also took seven wickets at an average of less than 20. Overall, the 30-year-old all-rounder has scored more than 5000 first-class runs and taken nearly 150 first-class wickets in his career.
“Whenever you need a wicket or a run, he puts his hand up every time. The way he has played over the last few seasons for Tassie in Shield cricket is incredible,” Kuhneman said.
Australia’s fast bowling capability has increased even more with Webster’s inclusion in the team. A strong back-up has been found in place of Marsh, who had participated in the Perth Test and bowled 17 overs, which is his most bowling in a Test since the 2019 Oval Test.
Marsh suffered a serious injury earlier this year and had limited bowling time, so Webster’s presence will be crucial.
