Jaipur : Sawan month is considered very sacred in Sanatan Dharma. In Sawan, devotees worship and anoint Mahadev (Lord Shiva) throughout the month. Devotees reach Shiva temples across the country carrying Kanwar to offer water to Lord Shiva. This time Sawan month will start from 22nd of July and will end on Sawan Purnima on 19th August. In the month of Sawan dedicated to Lord Shiva, devotees worship Shivling every day. It is believed that by keeping and worshipping, Bholenath fulfills every wish of the devotees. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Shivalinga Puja and it has some rules., which are necessary to follow. Tulsi leaves are prohibited
Tulsi leaves are used in Hindu worship. Tulsi leaves are prohibited in Shivling worship. It is believed that Lord Shiva had killed Tulsi’s husband, so Tulsi Mata deprived him of her sacred and beneficial leaves. Therefore, Tulsi leaves should not be offered on Shivling even by mistake.
Never offer coconut water
Coconut water should not be offered during the worship of Shivling. The coconut offered to God during the worship is consumed as prasad. Whatever things are used for the Abhishekam of Shivling are prohibited. Therefore, coconut water should never be offered on Shivling.
Ketaki flowers are forbidden in Shiva worship
There is a ritual of worshipping Shivlinga for the entire month of Sawan. People also observe fasts to get the blessings of Mahadev. Ketaki flowers are not offered on Shivlinga. According to beliefs, Ketaki flower had supported Brahma ji in his lie. Angered by this, Mahadev had cursed Ketaki flower. That is why it is forbidden to offer this flower on Shivlinga.
Use of conch is prohibited
According to the mythological tale, Mahadev killed a demon named Shankhchud. Shankhchud was born as a conch. That is why the use of conch in the worship of Lord Shiva is considered forbidden. Not only this, Bholenath is not even anointed with a conch.
