Borrowing of Panchayats reached 23 billion in Chittorgarh state, 2199.57 lakh in the district

Chittorgarh : In the name of development, when the state government issued approvals for MNREGA construction works on a large scale in the last four years, the Gram Panchayats enthusiastically got the construction works done. Now the tenure of the Sarpanches is in the last phase. At the same time, the agencies working in Gram Panchayats have not been paid for the construction material for the last four years. The situation is such that the borrowings of Panchayats in the state have reached about Rs 23 billion. Whereas in Chittorgarh district this borrowing is Rs 2199.57 lakh.

The condition of Sarpanches regarding payment of dues is bad. Although the government has been paying 10-15 percent of the original loan every year, in the last four years the loan for construction material across the state has reached Rs 22 billion 96 crore 33 lakh. Due to non-payment the material suppliers have also given up. In such a situation, new construction works of MNREGA in Gram Panchayats are getting affected. In Chittorgarh district alone, Rs 21 crore 99 lakh 57 thousand rupees of material are outstanding. But the government is not taking any notice. Sarpanch is putting pressure on agencies regarding construction works. But agencies are holding back from doing new work due to long borrowings. Construction agencies say that now even the material suppliers have turned their backs on them. Due to competition, agencies have already done construction work at cheaper rates at many places. Now, due to non-payment, the condition of the agencies is bad. Borrowing of MNREGA construction material has broken records in Gram Panchayats. The situation is that when the elections of Sarpanches were held in 2020, no work could be done. The government has not paid for the construction material from 2021 to 2023. Now the fear is whether the new sarpanch will pay the dues or not.
