Rio de Janeiro, November 19 (IANS). Brazilian President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. During this, he acknowledged that Brazil has learned a lot from India’s experience in organizing the two-day G-20 Rio summit.
President Lula welcomed PM Modi at the bilateral meeting at the Museum of Modern Art at the beginning of the second and final day of the meeting.
Brazil’s presidential office said in a statement after the meeting, “The President thanked Prime Minister Modi for joining the Global Coalition against Hunger and Poverty and congratulated him on organizing the G-20 last year. Lula said That Brazil has learned a lot from the Indian experience in organizing the Rio Summit.”
During the meeting, President Lula also expressed his desire to visit India in 2025 with a delegation of government, scientific community and businessmen. PM Modi said India would be happy to welcome President Lula and the delegation next year and would work towards a state visit to Brazil in 2025.
PM Modi said in a post on social media platform We evaluated the bilateral relations between our countries and reaffirmed our commitment to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, biofuels, defence, etc.”
PM Modi praised Brazil’s chairmanship for continuing the work of the G-20 and making progress on issues on the group’s agenda. The two leaders also discussed cooperation in biofuels, defense and aerospace sectors.
The Rio Summit builds on the priorities of last year’s G-20 New Delhi Summit, where a number of issues, particularly related to emerging markets and developing economies, were discussed.
The meeting was also attended by Brazilian Ministers Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs), Fernando Haddad (Finance), Alexandre Silveira (Mines and Energy), Luciana Santos (Science and Technology), as well as Marcio Elías Rosa, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce.
