Brutality on married woman for dowry demand, tied to tree and beaten, painful death

Alwar : A 27-year-old married woman, who was admitted to a private hospital in Alwar city for two days, died on Tuesday night. The deceased Shaanu Nat, a resident of Dhawala Pump area in Akbarpur police station area, had marks of assault on her hands and legs. The family members allege that she was tied with ropes and beaten at her in-laws’ house and then poisoned for not fulfilling the demand of a car and Rs 10 lakh in dowry. The post-mortem of the body was done in the district hospital. Medical jurist Dr. Manoj Sharma said that the initial investigation has revealed that the death was due to toxic substance. Injury marks have been found on the body of the deceased. Akbarpur police station officer Omprakash Meena said that the deceased’s father Sunil Nat, a resident of Akbarpur, filed a report on Wednesday that his daughter Shaanu was married to Arpit Nat, a resident of Kotkhavda in Jaipur district, in her childhood. The gauna ceremony was done in the year 2015. Son-in-law Arpit works in a photo studio. Since the Gauna ceremony, husband Arpit, father-in-law Harinarayan Nat and brother-in-law Chetan were demanding a Scorpio car and Rs 10 lakh in dowry.

For this they used to harass Shaanu. On 23rd June, a call came from her in-laws’ house asking to take Shaanu away. He sent his son to Jaipur on 24th June, where Shaanu was found injured and unconscious. Her brother brought Shaanu to Alwar. Here she was first admitted to Mittal Hospital and then to Solanki Hospital. Shaanu died on the night of 25th June. Her father alleged that Shaanu was tied with a rope and beaten by her husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law for not bringing dowry. Then she was given poison. This led to her death. The police have registered a case of murder for dowry against the accused. As the in-laws did not come during the post-mortem, the body was handed over to her parents’ side.

The father used to torture his wife by threatening to kill the son. The deceased Shaanu has two children, an 8 year old son and a 3 year old daughter. Sunil, father of the deceased, said that his son-in-law Arpit used to threaten his daughter Shaanu with killing her everyday for demanding dowry. The son-in-law also used to beat his eight year old son and torture his daughter. We tried to make the son-in-law understand by holding several meetings of the people of the society. Then the son-in-law used to beat the daughter for demanding dowry. This is why the daughter was very upset.
