Cabinet approval of draft of ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill welcomed in political circles

New Delhi, December 12 (IANS). The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the draft of the bill related to ‘One Nation, One Election’. The winter session of Parliament is going on and this bill can be introduced in Parliament in this session. After the approval of the draft of the bill, the round of political statements has also intensified. Leaders of various political parties have given their respective reactions on this.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Rakesh Sachan said that the entire country used to be busy in elections for five years, now it has got relief from this. Now people will not have the headache of elections. This change will prove to be very beneficial for the country. For the last several years, there was a demand that elections should be held at the same time in the country, so that one can get rid of the noise and busyness of elections all the time. Now the draft of the bill that has been passed will definitely bring a big change in the country. When elections are held once in five years, it will be the beginning of a long development journey and the country will develop rapidly. This bill has been brought and passed very well, which will prove to be an important step for the overall development of the country.

Madhya Pradesh’s Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said that ‘One Nation One Election’ is in the interest of the country, but the government should make it clear under what conditions it wants to implement it and what will be its form. Bharatiya Janata Party has not made any clear statement on this issue. I think it is important to ensure the credibility of EVMs in the country before ‘One Nation One Election’. Unless there is trust in EVMs, questions will continue to be raised on the electoral process. Therefore the status of EVMs should be clear, only then the electoral process should be implemented.

BJP MLA Sanjay Upadhyay said that there was a demand for improvement in the election process for a long time. Earlier it used to be that different elections were held in the country throughout the year, due to which large-scale development work would come to a halt during the code of conduct. To improve this situation, the draft bill related to ‘One Country, One Election’ has been passed in the Cabinet today, which we fully welcome. Now we hope that this bill is passed in the Parliament soon, so that the electoral process in the country can be made more systematic and developmental.

Expressing his party’s support to the proposal of ‘one country, one election’, JDU leader Sanjay Jha said, “We had earlier also gone before the committee on this issue and our party had proposed that there should be separate elections between the Parliament and the Assembly. Elections should be held simultaneously. Panchayat elections can be kept separate, but simultaneous elections of Parliament and Assembly will also reduce the expenditure and also simplify the election process. will be allowed to work full time for five years Will be achieved, which will maintain stability.”

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut supported ‘One Nation One Election’ and said that it is a good step. The biggest thing is that the government spends a lot of time and money in this process, which will now be saved. The election process continues for two to three months and during this time all the election machinery is deployed. If ‘One Country, One Election’ is implemented, it will save all this and the time and resources of the government will be used in the right direction. This is a positive and effective step.

Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya said that we welcome it. This was not a hidden agenda for BJP. Our leader Lal Krishna Advani also supported this idea and he also said that there should be ‘one nation, one election’. BJP has been demanding this issue for a long time and this was our agenda. This is the opinion not only of BJP, but also of many economists, political scientists, retired IAS officers, administrative officers and common citizens of the country. The people of the country want that the expenses of elections should be reduced, our economy should be strengthened, and it should be easier to maintain law and order. This is why steps are being taken in the direction of ‘One Nation, One Election’. We will welcome it.

Attacking Congress and Trinamool Congress, Bhattacharya said that Congress and Trinamool Congress are speaking the same language, which is against the federal structure. Congress and Trinamool Congress continuously speak against the Central Government. The aim of these parties is only to oppose BJP, no matter what the issue is.
