Cancer-stricken child bitten by rats in Jaipur government hospital

Jaipur News Desk: This Cancer Institute located in Pratap Nagar, Rajasthan is the largest government hospital in Rajasthan. The responsibility of its administration rests with SMS Medical College. In the institution where patients from the state and nearby states come for treatment, their lives are in danger due to the uncleanliness there. The situation is such that the toe of a 10-year-old child suffering from blood cancer admitted in the State Cancer Institute (SCI) was gnawed by rats. When the child cried in pain, the family members removed the blanket and saw that a rat came out and ran away. The child was bleeding from his leg. When the family members informed the nursing staff, they just bandaged the leg and went away after providing food.

Admit was done two days ago

When his health deteriorated, the child was shown to the Medical Oncology Department on 11 December. Here he was admitted to the pediatric ward. This accident happened to him while sleeping at night. The patients present there told that rats, cats and dogs keep roaming in the wards and there is no security of any kind. The cleanliness system in SCI has completely deteriorated for the last five days. Despite the contractor not paying salaries to the workers and then giving the work to a new firm, the arrangements could not be made correct. For this reason, there is filth everywhere in the entire hospital, from the wards, operation theater and gallery. Food items are scattered here and there and due to this there is a terror of rats here. Also now dogs and cats have also started coming to the wards and because of this the family members are worried.

Responsible said – will fix the cleaning system

Superintendent of State Cancer Institute, Dr. Sandeep Jasuja said that the child was informed about being bitten by a rat. The child was taken into custody soon after. The cleanliness system is being improved so that the patients do not face any problem. In July 2023, a rat had gnawed the leg of a patient in MDM Hospital, Jodhpur. In May 2022, a rat had gnawed the eye of a female patient in MBS Hospital, Kota. The woman was paralyzed and had come for treatment.
