Central government releases grant of Rs 448 crore for local rural bodies of Karnataka

New Delhi, November 22 (IANS). The central government issued a statement on Friday saying that Rs 448.29 crore has been released as the first installment of 15th Finance Commission grants to local rural bodies of Karnataka for the financial year 2024-25.

The statement said that this fund is for all eligible 5,949 gram panchayats.

The government has recommended the release of 15th Finance Commission grants to the states for rural local bodies through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation), which is released by the Finance Ministry. The allocated grant will be released in two installments in the financial year.

The untied grants will be utilized by Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) for location-specific needs under the 29 subjects contained in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, except salaries and other establishment costs. TIDE grants can be used for basic services to maintain sanitation and ODF statuses. This includes household waste management (especially human excreta and fecal sludge management), supply of drinking water and rain water.

The Government of India is taking strong steps to strengthen rural self-governance by providing Fifteenth Finance Commission grants to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs)/Rural Local Bodies (RLBs). This funding helps local governing bodies become more effective, accountable and independent, leading to sustainable and sustainable progress in rural areas.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, this initiative promotes development that benefits all and encourages people’s participation.
