Challenges of poor people increased amid the onset of winter in Delhi

New Delhi, November 18 (IANS). With the onset of winter in the national capital Delhi, smog and pollution have affected life. People are now reluctant to leave their homes and even if they are leaving, they are preparing themselves for the change in weather. Many people facing the brunt of weather and pollution shared their experiences while talking to IANS.

Speaking to IANS, Dilip said, “It is very cold today. We are warming ourselves by fire to protect ourselves from the cold. We are poor people, so we don’t have much choice. We thought it would be best to bake over a fire. Right now, we are cooking fire.”

Hamisha told IANS, “Now we are poor people. As the winter progressed, cooking by fire was a better option for all of us.”

RK Malhotra told IANS, “The weather is changing. Winter has come. In such a situation, we are now taking precautions. We have no option to save ourselves. Our only option is to burn with fire. With the help of which we are saving ourselves from fire. I myself also feel that this is the best way for poor people like us to escape from the havoc of winter. The month of November is about to end. The cold will increase after a few days. In such a situation, it becomes necessary for all of us to protect ourselves.”

Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi reached ‘hazardous’ level on Monday and the air quality index (AQI) reached 481 at 7 am, which is in the ‘very severe’ category. Its impact is clearly visible from Delhi’s India Gate to Dutta Path. This dangerous level has worrying effects on health.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for dense fog.
